We took a walk on the green a few nights ago and came across this new structure. It's a camera obsura or Vorti-Scope. You go inside and turn the lens around to get different views of the city. It's pretty cool. Actually it was pretty warm inside because the thing is made of metal.

We went sledding last weekend, but temps this weekend will probably make it too cold to sled. Q "made" me go down the hill on the sled too. I was terrified, but it was fun. Except for when you get snow sprayed in your face and that long walk back up the hill. Q looks tired in this pic doesn't he?

On friday October 10th, Shelley, Terri and I went to TreeGo Macataquac and tried out the zip lines and course they have there. This is me crossing some ropes. This wasn't too hard, but some other things were. The ziplines were really fun though!

Q & I went rock climbing on Saturday with my sister Terri. It was quite an adventure. I chickened out on the rock climbing part and now I regret it. I got a lot of nice pictures though. The fall foliage is at it's peak in NB right now.

This pic is of Q on his first ever rock climb in Sunnyside Welsford. I think this particular route is called "heart breaker", but I could be wrong about that.

It was -19C today, but surprisingly not too cold for skating. We saw a bald eagle fly over as we skated on Barb's outdoor rink, but I missed that shot. Here, we are just taking a rest break. No children or parents were hurt or frozen. No worries!

First Utter

I've had this utter account for awhile so I guess I should post something. Money and finances have been on my mind since the new year began. Income tax time is comming up and RRSP season is upon us. I just finished reading the book "All your worth" by Elizabeth Warren & Amelia Warren Tyagi and came to the conclusion that our "Needs" are taking too much of our income. We reviewed our insurance with our insurance guy last night and got rid of some whole life policies that are costing us hefty monthly premiums. We will replace them with term life and use the money that was built up in the whole life policies to buy RRSPs. We also returned our leased GMS Sierra and replaced it with a used Buick Rendevous. While I miss having the 4-wheel driver at least this payment is much less than the lease payment was and the vehicle will be ours someday. I probably should have gotten the Toyota Corolla though. Gas is so expensive!

We went to the Frex (Fredericton Exhibition) friday afternoon. It was fun but really hot and humid. After Shelley and I got on the Star Trooper we both felt sick and dizzy. I used to love all these rides, but now I get really scared. It's all just part of getting older I guess.

This picture Q is trying to climb up that rope ladder and ring the bell to won a cheap stuffed toy. Three tries for $5. He didn't make it. You can't uses your knees on the ladder. Just hands and feet. I think it is close to impossible. Q would rather play the games than go on the rides I think.

One of the reasons we went to MGM was so my son could go on the Star Wars ride. Unfortunately he was scared off by the loud noises outside the ride and wouldn't go in. My Mom and I went on instead. All the rain we've been getting has swollen the banks of the Saint John River. The pier across from our place is inaccessible now. You can just see the corner of it peeking from the water. This is an HDR (High Dynamic Range) from 3 exposures combined using Photomatix software.

Q and I went for a bike ride last night and stopped at the small craft aquatic centre to look around. The boat moving off in the distance was at the dock when we walked down to the end of it. They looked like they were having a great time and we wished we could have went with them. The sun was a glowing red ball last night. This picture does not do it justice.

Q tries on hockey equipment at the walmart. I was around the corner looking at camping supplies. I turned the corner and there is Q with all this hockey equipment on! He wants to play hockey so badly, but there is a big controversy in the city since they are building 2 huge arenas and want the outlying communities (like us) to contribute. Most of the communties have said they don't wish to raise their property taxes to pay for something that not everyone will use. This means we will have to pay huge user fees ($300+ the first year, the $700 the next!) or go somewhere else for hockey.
